2013' Ol'ron Island Stand Up Paddle Challenge

For the 3rd time OLERON ISLAND (France / Europe) is going to live a new
STANDUP WORLD SERIES event on June 7-8-9. Oléron Island is located in
CHARENTE MARITIME (south west of France). Oléron is the biggest island
on the French Atlantic coast. Facing Atlantic Ocean the west coast of
the island is very well exposed to the swell which gives the opportunity
to have some very great and dramatic

Beach Races. The island is home to many surfers, windsurfers and of course now, good “standupers” as well.

On the east side of the island when the sea breeze is established the
Long Distance Course is just amazing (the best period of the year to get
this providential North West wind is May, June and July). The 16
nautical miles itinerary offers to the competitors an unreal scenery
with a huge fortress to bypass right in the middle of the ocean and a
finish to the feet of a lovely castle which seems anchored in the sea.
The “Fort Boyard” the biggest one and the 1st mark on the race course
dates from the XIXth century. The “Fort Louvois” which mark the end of
the race dates from the XVIIth

century.

This area is very well-known also for those who like shellfish with the very famous oysters of MARENNES OLERON.

Organized by DIABOLO FUN the organizer of NAUTIC SUP PARIS CROSSING
(www.facebook.com/NAUTIC-SUP-PARIS-CROSSING) and very recently the
BILBAO WORLD SUP CHALLENGE (www.facebook.com/BilbaoWORLDSUPChallenge),
OLERON ISLAND STAND UP PADDLE CHALLENGE
(www.facebook.com/OleronSUPChallenge) will offer to the competitors,
media and other observers, an unbelievable and unique race in one of the
greatest environment of the French Atlantic coast. DIABOLO FUN base
camp (www.diabolofun.com) is situated at “Plage des Huttes” (SAINT DENIS
D’OLERON). This spot and of course the school and their responsible
have organized a lot of events there since 1986 (windsurfing
essentially). Robby Naish himself came to visit the local crew for an
event which was totally dedicated to the Hawaiian legend. Beyond the
knowledge and the experience of the staff of DIABOLO FUN in event
organization, the local atmosphere and the ambiance are very warm and
special because of the island spirit. Please, just come to feel it, you
are very welcome…

With US$ 10.000 prize money OLERON ISLAND STANDUP PADDLE CHALLENGE is
the first European stop of the STANDUP WORLD SERIES 2013’ schedule. Open
to the “PRO” riders this event will be as well a very friendly
gathering for those who just like to cruise and especially who dream to
discover the emblematic “Fort Boyard” and majestic “Fort Louvois”.
Therefore the event is open to “Amateurs” (OPEN DIVISION).  With a Long
Distance Race of 16 nautical miles for “PRO DIVISION” and a 8 nautical
miles for “OPEN DIVISION” the island will be crowed of paddlers coming
from all around the world. The

1.00 pm / if the weather conditions are not suitable enough for that
course another one will be proposed). A Sprint Race will be held on
Sunday afternoon at “Plage des Huttes”, DIABOLO FUN’s base camp, where
the “OLERON ISLAND STANDUP PADDLE CHALLENGE Village” will be set up. If
