Peter Gilmour announced today the exciting new partnership between Yanmar Corporation and Gilmour's match racing team.

Yanmar Corporation's Osamu Sugano said 'we are delighted to announce our partnership with Peter. He is a charismatic leader in the sailing world. His passion to be the best in the racing arena ideally mirrors Yanmar's passion to provide the best engine in the marine world'.

The three-year partnership will allow the newly named team, Yanmar Racing Team, to focus on the international match racing circuit on a full-time basis starting with the 2009 World Match Racing Tour season.

'We are very excited by the announcement by Sugano-san of the Yanmar Racing and looking forward to getting on the tour. The thing I have recognised over the two years of the tour it does require great resources to keep going on the tour. You need essential financial support. Yanmar agreeing to support us for three years with a significant sum of money will essentially allow us to get out on the boat and start to hopefully show some of these youngsters the old folk still have it in them,' Gilmour said.

Gilmour also reported on plans to rekindle the match racing circuit in Japan. 'Yanmar not only want to get involved in a racing team, they also want to be involved in the entire sport. We may see them sponsoring the tour or sponsoring an event in Japan. Certainly Japan is a very important market for Yanmar.

'It is exciting times for us to be joined together with a company that is so diverse,' Gilmour said.
