The Yachting NSW President Roger Hickman has written to all Yacht Clubs in NSW making the annoucment of the change in Management structure.
Here is the contents of his letter.
'Difficult economic times have led to a review of the management structure of Yachting NSW resulting in the position of the Chief Executive Officer being made redundant.
'Recently Yachting NSW attempted to secure the sustainable funding of our sport through the introduction of a banding system of yacht club membership. This proposed constitutional change would have brought NSW into line with all other states around the nation. The objective was to ensure that all people involved in the sport contribute fairly and equitably towards the costs of administering our sport - an objective which has not been achieved through the current system of individual membership of Yachting Australia. However, the proposed constitutional change was not successful.
'Yachting NSW finances operated at a loss this year. This has led to a number of reviews, including, in consultation with Yachting Australia, the rationalisation of NSW training and development programs. Further reviews of expenditure and accountability will continue.
'After a review of the management structure of Yachting NSW, the Board has decided that the position of CEO is no longer viable.
'It is with regret that Adrian Steer is leaving. Adrian has worked diligently to implement the Australian Sports Commission's report, 'Strengthening Sailing' recommendations which address the issues regarding the future stability and sustainability of our sport.'
'We thank him for his dedication and wish him well in his future career.'
