Yachting Australia President Andrew Plympton has been elected to the Australian Olympic Committee Executive.

Plympton was elected to the board at the AOC's Annual General Meeting in Sydney on Saturday, with John Coates re-elected as AOC President.

Plympton is looking forward to working alongside the AOC in the lead up to the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games, the innaugural Youth Olympic Games to be held in Singapore, also in 2010, and 2012 London Olympic Games.

'Being elected to the AOC Executive is a great honour,' he said.

'The Olympics are the pinnacle of sporting achievement for athletes from around the world and I look forward to working with Australia's current, and aspiring, Olympians as we head first towards Vancouver, then Singapore and London,' said Plympton.

Plympton has been President of Yachting Australia since 2004 was elected to the AOC Executive following the retirement of swimming great Michael Wenden after 20 years of service.

Members of the AOC Executive include the President, two Vice Presidents, two members of the IOC in Australia, the Secretary General, the Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of the Athletes' Commission, and seven members of the Executive.
