7:17 AM Sat 24 Jan 2009 GMT Sydney sailor Graham Wood has sailed his Judel-Vrolijk TP 52 Wot Now, into the Skandia Geelong IRC series lead after the 34 mile Williamstown to Geelong Passage Race.
Wood commented this afternoon, 'Consistency wins. It's a very tough fleet, good boats and a good mix of conditions.
'We are better prepared than we've been before, there has been a lot of work making sure the boat is pretty much bullet proof and we have a very talented crew and so far with three seconds against a good fleet, we've been pretty much error free.
'We've modified this boat for a good IRC rating; more weight in bulb and a good suite of fast North Sails.
'Spike Dorian is on main, Julian Plante principal helmsman, Stan Tristan-Eldshaw is navigating.
Wood, who started early in the online accommodation scene with industry heavy weight Wot-if.com has become a racing fleet owner in recent years with a Farr 40, Sydney 47CR, the old TP52 and the new JV TP52.
'Some people are better at selling boats than I am.. .' he smiled.
Yesterday Michael Hiatt's new Farr 55 Living Doll has started the series with two wins, fell back through the fleet.
She was called over early by race officials and painfully had to sail back through the fleet to restart. Then she suffered gear failure and two of her crew were working on the foredeck for more than 30 minutes before she was able to tension her head sail. Hiatt commented this afternoon. 'I am pretty surprised we went so well all things consdiered.
Stephen Ainsworth's Reichel-Pugh 63 Loki is now third overall.
