What is Wintersail? A three day fun coaching event for junior sailors!

Wintersail is a three day fun coaching event for all Junior sailors. If you've completed a learn to sail program such as GISBS level 1 or 2 and you want to get some more practice, learn some new skills, improve your sailing, meet other sailors and have fun then enter Wintersail 10 Jul 2009 - 12 Jul 2009.

2009 Wintersail will be held at Albert Park Yacht Club and organised by Yachting Victoria, Albert Park Yacht Club and the Junior Class Associations - Int Cadet, Laser 4.7, Minnow, Optimist and Sabot.

What happens during the day?

On the first day sailors are split into different groups according to their ability. A class specific coach, with experience sailing, racing and coach your class with take you through various sailing exercises, practising skills, correcting mistakes and helping you improve.

Albert Park Yacht Club organises some short run races on the final afternoon. Once everybody has packed away their boat on Sunday afternoon there is a short presentation, winners of the races receive a small prize but there are also encouragement awards, special achievement awards. Everybody takes home a Wintersail certificate.

Over lunch time there are short talks given by some inspirational sailors, in the past there has been Olympic Gold Medalist Mark Turnbull and Sydney to Hobart winning skipper Grant Wharington.

At the end of the day there is a debrief with your coach and this year we are hoping to be able to use a video camera as well.

How do I enter?

Follow the link below to the event page and click on the 'enter Wintersail' button. After you have entered and paid online (this is the only way to enter) there is a medical form and parental consent form that you need to print out, complete and return to Jane at Yachting Victoria. Remember after 2nd July there is a late entry fee of $30 - that money could be spent on some new sailing boots so enter early. It also makes it easier for us to organise coaches so everybody has a great Wintersail.
