I have now broken my own record of time alone at sea. Before now, it was 26 days (St Nazaire - Cuba, Trophee BPE 2005). By the end of today it will be four weeks since the start of the Vendee Globe.

It's funny though, as it doesn't seem like I have spent four weeks out here. The time is going SO fast! There are little signs of the time at sea showing up on Roxy though - like the rust stains on the coachroof where my solar panels have rusted up, the squid-ink stain, and a 'lived in' look to the inside. So much so that I decided that this morning was a 'housework' morning and I did a little clean and tidy-up.

The wind has dropped too, and last night I got to put my big gennaker back up. I am desperately trying to stay in front of Bernard Stamm, who is coming up behind in a bit more wind.

Getting the gennaker out of the forehatch was just as tricky as getting it in, as it still seems to have a mind of its own, but once I had persuaded the bottom part of it to come out, the rest almost sprung out on its own! I could almost hear a sigh of relief as it finally got to unfurl itself having been so tightly rolled last time!

Finally, as daylight came (that's around 02.30 am) I managed to do a little check around on deck, as it's the first time in days that I can get around without being fire-hosed with cold Southern Ocean spray!

At 1000 UK time, Sam Davies aboard Roxy was in 14th position, 545 miles from race leader Jean Pierre Dick aboard Paprec-Virbac 2
