VHF Masthead Aerials Mandatory
The current regulation 3.25.3ii requires that as from July 2008 that VHF aerials are recommended to be at the masthead for masts 11 metres or more above the water.
However Yachting Australia published Amendment 4 and the recommended status of the regulation has been made mandatory.
Therefore as from 31 July 2008 masthead VHF aerials are mandatory.
The YA Board at its meeting May 2008 rejected the submission from its National Safety Committee that Amendment 4 should be withdrawn.
Yachting NSW Special Regulations Committee will be considering the impact of the amendment to the regulation at its July meeting.
Clubs may make requests for relaxation of the regulation to YNSW under Regulation 1.01.3(c) and (d). A Club should first obtain from YNSW a Copy of the guidelines for relaxation requests.
