.
| Despite the global financial situation, there have been promising signs from various segments of the boating industry and the Tinnie and Tackle Show, being staged over three days (March 20, 21, 22) may give some insight into a newly energetic industry.
It has been hailed as Queensland's biggest outdoors adventure expo, and when the 2009 Tinnie and Tackle and Four-Wheel Drive Show opens at the RNA Showgrounds, Brisbane, on Friday, Marine Queensland will be hoping for a continued industry resurgence.
One personality has already confirmed his attendance at the expo; even though he has a State Election on his plate, the Leader of the Opposition, Lawrence Springborg will no doubt be in 'election mode', but he will be there.
Who knows, he may even be 'outranked' by another high-profile personality in attendance; retired cricket Test great Matthew Hayden will be there in his role as an ambassador for the National Marine Safety Committee.
Despite the global financial situation, there have been promising signs from various segments of the boating industry and the Tinnie and Tackle Show, being staged over three days (March 20, 21, 22) may give some insight into a newly energetic industry.
The expo is open 9am to 6pm on the Friday and Saturday, and 9am to 5pm on the Sunday.
According to Marine Queensland, the 2009 exhibition boasts more fishing tackle, fishing accessories and general boating equipment than ever previously displayed.
One attraction appearing for the first time is sure to attract anglers; it's the 'Sports Fishin' Simulator', which allows each challenger to select a level of difficulty, fish type, tackle and weather conditions at the time.
Marine Queensland event manager, Jason Plant, said the simulator will 'really test the skills' of anglers and would-be anglers.
Fishing is high on the show's agenda and an impressive array of guest presenters will be on hand over the three days with a range of seminars aimed at local fishing 'hot spots'.
Some of the subjects (all dear to an angler's heart) to be discussed include 'Catching fish consistently at Jumpinpin', 'Tips on improving whiting fishing', Trolling for wahoo in small boats', ' Bream, whiting, mulloway and bull sharks in the Logan River', 'Lures and plastics that work well in Moreton Bay' and 'Where to find fish in estuaries'.
The Invitational Bream Tournament will also be staged through the show, with the final weigh-in and interviews set for 2.30pm on the Sunday.
Organisers have not overlooked the youngsters, with an exciting range of fishing activities aimed at the kids with the Berkley Kids Fishing Show.
Although he made his name and fame as one of Australia's all-time best opening batsmen, fishing has always been a Matt Hayden priority when cricket was on hold.
Hayden has told Marine Queensland he is 'really looking forward' to attending the show and sharing his own experiences with like-minded boaters and anglers.
'I myself have been in an embarrassing situation where we flipped while crossing a bar,' he said.
'Aside from some damaged pride, however, it was absolute gold in terms of a lesson learnt for me.
'I want to emphasise to boaters, be prepared and think twice about the prevailing conditions before going out on the water.
'Understand that a lot of thought needs to go into the planning of a day out before actually heading out,' he added.
The bottom line, says Marine Queensland, is simple - if you fish, might fish, intend to fish, you cannot afford to miss the 2009 Tinnie and Tackle Show.
Admission is only $10 (adults) or $8 (Concession and Students), while all children under 15-years are admitted free.
