11:32 PM Thu 1 Jan 2009 GMT On Saturday January 31st and Sunday February 1st 2009, the Magic 25 Association of Australia will be holding their National Titles on the pristine inland waters of St Georges Basin, south of Nowra, hosted by the Sussex Inlet & Basin Yacht Club.
Over the past two years many sailors have rediscovered fun and affordable sailing with the Magic 25 sportsboat.
This renewed interest in the Magic 25 was brought about by a group of Canberra sportsboat enthusiasts who envisioned that the Magic 25 was the perfect boat to cross the age barrier and entice more young people to be involved in the sport that their fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers or friends already enjoyed and had a passion for.
With the Magic 25 Association of Australia being reformed earlier this year and then affiliated with Yachting Australia, the Magic 25 is now a YA recognized open trapeze sportsboat class.
The Canberra fleet now stands at seven, with boats from Lake Macquarie, the USA, Geelong, Wagga Wagga and New Zealand all now calling the Canberra Yacht Club home.
On most Sunday afternoons and Wednesday evenings teenagers are now off the computers and outdoors, hanging out on the wires and having fun.
With over fifty Magic 25's scattered around Australia, the Magic 25 is set to follow the lead of the Elliott 7's and reinvigorate the Australian sportsboat sailing scene with one design class racing.
