Brisbane brothers Bob and David Trask made the best of a tough weekend in St. Petersburg, Russia to again score championship points.
David Trask drove his Trask Development Corporation F1 boat across the line in seventh position, while Bob was further back in 13th place.
Coming off a weekend of destruction and carnage the weekend prior at the Finland round, the team arrived in Russia with precious little time to re-group. Broken boats and busted engines littered the shipping container. With just a few days to assemble a competitive world class F1 race team, the TDC Aussie crew got two race boats to the start line for qualifying.
David Trask in the #4 TDC boat fared best ultimately qualifying in seventh position- missing out in the final six shootout by a mere 0.2 seconds. Bob didn't fare as well enduring a pesky electrical problem which was later identified as being the ECU.
Bob qualified well down the field in position 22, knowing that come race day he would have his work cut out to power through from the back of the field. Starting in seventh place, David Trask would at least have a closer look at the front runners.
The UIM F1 World Championship series is the pinnacle of water borne motor sport. With rounds in Europe, the Middle East and Asia, the series is as demanding and intense as any world title should be.
With a field of 23 F1 drivers lined up on the start dock, the TDC team had their work cut out.
David Trask performed well pushing the front runners by hanging off their transom until the boat tripped on a roller and nose dived. To his credit David recovered from the situation, regained his composure and set off after the lead pack again.
By the end of the mandatory 50 laps of the GP of Russia, David's #4 TDC boat came home in 6th position just 16 seconds behind the race leader. Once again David Trask scored championship points.
Bob Trask endured a challenging race. 'Throughout the race my boat just didn't feel right,' Bob said. 'I was off my normal pace and couldn't assert myself as I would have liked.'
Having started in 22nd position, Bob Trask came across the line in 13th place, a fine effort considering all of the problems.
'The opening four rounds of the 2008 UIM F1 World Championship has been a pretty demanding period that has tested our team,' Bob Trask said.
'While we may not be as well placed in the series as we had hoped, at least now we have some breathing time to re-group and get prepared for the remaining six rounds. We have some hulls to repair and engine development work ahead of us.'
At the completion of four rounds, David Trask is in eighth position on the Drivers World Championship Points table, Bob Trask is in 14th position.
The next round of the 2008 UIM F1 World Championship is to be contested in China on October 1st.
Trask Brothers Racing will be contesting the next round of the Australian F1 Superboat series to be conducted at Port Macquarie NSW on July 13th.
