The British-based SuperSport Team 26 is out to conquer the Powerboat P1 world as it readies its new Sterling-powered Donzi for the 2009 Powerboat P1 World Championship.
Described as 'a harmonious marriage' between the brand new Donzi 38ZRC hull and two Sterling V8 engines, the boat is the product of months of hard work by legendary Belgian Nico Bertels.
It was recently subjected to extensive testing near Bertels' headquarters in Willebroek, Belgium.
Team owner and driver, Daniel Cramphorn, with throttleman Kim Collins, Team 26 showed plenty of style and ability last year with a third place in their maiden event at Vigo, Spain.
The third placing, together with the success of the recent Belgian testing and the obvious potential of the new boat, has the team optimistic, to say the least.
'We're the youngest and most enthusiastic team in P1 with a huge desire to win the championship,' Cramphorn declared.
'We've already proven our potential following our maiden wildcard event last season, but now the goalposts are that much higher.
'The Powerboat P1 World Championship carries with it more prestige than ever and the competition is as close as you can get, and that will make our accomplishments even more exciting,' he added.
Cramphorn said Team 26 had taken a completely different approach to the coming season, based on the results achieved in 2008.
'We decided our elevated ambitions demanded a new approach so we opted for a brand new boat with which we hope to fight for victories this season,' he explained.
'The Donzi-Sterling alliance promises a lot, but it has already demonstrated enormous potential in the testing carried out so far.
'Its outright speed is pretty awesome and I can't wait to truly unleash her on the competition when the season starts next month.
'We have tried to leave no stone unturned in pursuit of success, but we're well aware our greatly experienced rivals will present tough competition, so we're well aware of the challenge ahead,' he added.
Despite the '09 season opener only a month away (May 9-10, Malta), Team 26 still has room for supporters and sponsors to come aboard.
'We want to share our success and we're looking for partners to join us in our quest for glory,' Cramphorn said.
'We are the P1 new boys and there's no better time to join us.'
