11:41 PM Sun 22 Mar 2009 GMT Superior Marinas, Australia's leading manufacturer of marinas and commercial berthing applications, is underway with its purpose built Superyacht Marina at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), the site of marine-themed shows and events in one part of the Middle East that remains unaffected by global recession.
The Superyacht Marina, installed for the inaugural Abu Dhabi Yacht Show (ADYS), is a major achievement having been commissioned and completed in under 90 days. Superior Marinas in conjunction with their Licensee in the Middle East Al Masaood, commenced the project in December, with materials procurement starting immediately and urgent components sent by air freight to the joint venture partner Al Masaood in Abu Dhabi.

The team at Al Masaood called upon their substantial resources from the other divisions of their business to support the new marina project, with a mobilization allowing production to start by January 8 at a brand new site at Mussafa, a mere 7km by water from the ADNEC site.
"I'm so impressed with the effort and teamwork shown by our team from Superior Marinas in Australia and our licensee in the UAE Al Masaood, to deliver such a major project in such a short timeframe", said John Hogan Managing Director of Superior Marinas. 'This project exemplifies our ability to undertake and deliver world class commercial projects, now with a particular specialty in the area of berthing for super and mega yacht requirements.'
The Superior Marinas Elite system was used to manufacture the largest individual pontoons, measuring 9m x 5m and weighing in at approximately 20 ton each. In addition to the locally produced Elite system, the hospitality pontoons for the show were made with components from their plant on the Gold Coast, Australia, and then assembled in Abu Dhabi. A key feature of the pontoons used is the ability to create multiple configurations, which can be used for future onwater exhibitions at the site.
The first exhibition for the purpose built site was held in late February with the IDEX Defence Show. The Superior Marinas Al Masaood team installed temporary berths while leaving the main area for warships to berth onto the key wall. Once that show was complete and all the vessels departed, the site was made available to install the main concrete pontoons at 373m in length, in 8 days, before hand over for the ADYS.
The fact that this was achieved with the last component fitted an hour before the 75m Mega yacht Silver arrived for the show, really proves the fast installation of the Superior Marinas Elite system with its unique aluminium waler.
The teamwork between people on three continents also made this massive feat possible, with the entire project requiring over 800 tons of concrete and 11,000 man hours to complete in time.
