After 22 consecutive years of hosting their annual Frostbite regatta at Goolwa Regatta Yacht Club, the South Australian Laser Association (like many other users of the lower Murray River) has had to succumb to the extremely low water levels, and have been forced to move the regatta to nearby Victor Harbour.

The popular winter sailing event has been held at Goolwa 27 times in the last 28 years, with SALA being able to run a successful event at Goolwa in 2008 with racing still possible in the narrow channel. Unfortunately a near 1 metre drop in water level since even last year has forced the event to move, with the Victor Harbour Yacht Club kindly offering to host the event for 2009.

The second round of the 2008-09 Metropolitan Titles was held at Victor Harbour, with Laser sailors being made to feel very welcome. The new venue of Victor Harbour also allows those who may have pre-booked accommodation in Goolwa to still use such accommodation and travel to Victor for racing each day.

While the venue will change, we are planning to keep the same format as previous years, with a number of short and tight races being held on the Saturday and Sunday of the June Long Weekend (June 6th/7th 2009). A dinner is planned at the Victor Harbour Yacht Club for Saturday night allowing competitors and families to mix in a warm social atmosphere and discuss the day's activities.

Victor Harbour is an excellent venue and showed professional race management when we visited last season. We look forward to seeing you all there.
