Six sailors saved from Sydney seas

7:22 AM Thu 23 Oct 2008 GMT
NSW Water Police have this afternoon rescued six people from a sinking yacht in rough seas north of Pittwater. The 11 metre yacht, Encore, believed to be the old Warren Anderson designed aluminium sloop was about three nautical miles off Cape Three Points north of Broken Bay when a Police launch reached it just after 1600.

A NSW Water Police police spokeswoman said all six people on board had been accounted for and one needed treatment for mild hypothermia.

Gale force winds have been pushing up the seastate and winds were still in the 25-33 knot range.

Conditions are expected to moderate in the next few days for the Gosford to Lord Howe Island Race, which will sail out of Pittwater on Saturday.
