Multiple Sclerosis is the most common chronic, incurable neurological disease already affecting 20,000 Australians, with 200,000 directly impacted; including 75% women and 87% of working age/growing family, so come along and enjoy a sail while helping with the ultimate goal of Freedom from MS.
The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, Royal Motor Yacht Club, Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club and Dobroyd Aquatic Club, along with their members, have pledged support to MS Australia.
The Club's will provide boats and all you need to do is turn up and enjoy a fun sail on Sydney Harbour, Pittwater or Broken Bay between Sunday April 26 and Saturday May 2 and support MS Research Australia and MS Australia and provide hope for people with MS.
The regattas are open to individuals and groups and include a fun race sail, lunch or snack box and refreshments plus Freedom from MS merchandise item to wear on the day.
The CYCA at Rushcutters Bay holds Ladies Day from 11.00am on Sunday 26 October, so those participating at that venue will enjoy a fun race day on the opening day of the Audi Winter Series for $100.00 each person.
Or enjoy the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club's Wednesday Race Series on 29 April from 2.30pm on beautiful Pittwater for $100.00 each person.
Or if competition is not your thing, be part of the social atmosphere of a tranquil Pittwater sail at the Royal Motor Yacht Club's Twilight Race Series on Friday 1 May 2009 from 4pm for $60.00 each person.
Or take part in a dinghy sailing day at Dobroyd Aquatic Club. This point scoring competition will include Sailability members and is on Saturday 2 May for $10.00 each person.
Of course, larger donations are always welcome and we need your help to reach our fundraising goal of $50,000.
Sponsorship opportunities A sponsorship fee of between $2,500 and $5,000 will give sponsors the opportunity to have their logo featured on all marketing and promotional material plus the website and any event literature A select group of famous people have been asked to paint a burgee which will be auctioned off with all funds going to support people with MS.
To support people with MS, MS research and sailors with disabilities, we are asking everyone with a sense of fun and community to get involved and help turn this idea into a reality, whilst raising essential funds for these great causes.
Why assist the Multiple Sclerosis effort? . To reduce the direct cost of MS in Australia, currently over $700 million per annum, with the disease burden estimated at an additional $1.3billion pa (Access Economics 2005) . To ease the chronic disabilities, special care and very high personal expenses of MS . To stop the 7% pa increase with an estimated 1,000 new annual diagnoses, most prevalent in young women
After a successful pilot Regatta in Sydney in 2008, MS Australia's longtime goal is for a national regatta involving yachting and sailing clubs around Australia each year.
Working in partnership, MS Research Australia, MS Australia and Sailability Australia are not-for-profit organisations supporting MS research, people with MS and sailors with disabilities.
Their joint purpose is to minimise the impact of MS on individuals, their families and the community by providing care and support services and to work towards improving treatments for the disease and accelerating research to ultimately find a cure
