She's the Culprit named IRC winner by RYCT

The Sailing Committee of the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania has named Todd Leary's She's the Culprit as the winner of the IRC Division of the recent 2008 Tasports Maria Island Race after ruling that Creese Property was not eligible for that division.

Creese Property had been listed as the provisional IRC winner immediately following the ocean race held over the weekend of 21-23 November, with She's the Culprit in second place and Pisces third overall.

She's the Culprit is a modified Inglis 39, recently purchased by Todd Leary from Bellerive Yacht Club, and is one of six Tasmanian yachts nominated for this month's Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.

The RYCT Sailing Committee, at its meeting on Monday, 1 December, amended the results for the IRC Division of the Tasports Maria Island Race after considering facts relating to the entry of David Creese's Sydney 38 Creese Property in the 190 nautical mile race.

The Sailing Committee ruled that while Creese Property was a valid entry for the Tasports Maria Island Race, the boat was not eligible for the IRC Division as no valid IRC certificate had been supplied with the entry form.

The Sailing Committee decided that no further action be taken against Creese Property 'as the error has occurred through a combination of a lack of understanding by the owner of his obligations and a lack of administrative rigour by the RYCT, rather than a deliberate attempt by the owner to breach the rules.'

With Creese Property now not included in the IRC results, the top three placings are now:

1. She's the Culprit (Todd Leary)
2. Pisces (David Taylor/Graham McKibben)
3. Archie (Sally Rattle).

Results for the PHS Division remain unchanged.

Vice Commodore Murray Jones, Chairman of the RYCT Sailing Committee, has advised all competitors in the 2008 Tasports Maria Island Race of the changed IRC results, sending them a detailed summary of the Sailing Committee's rulings.
