A Salthouse is best described as a semi-production, high performance motor yacht of exceptional quality and performance. The crafting of every Salthouse is focussed on providing a vessel that is specified and personalised to a client's exacting requirements. Whatever the intended destination and purpose of the chosen vessel, each reflects its owner's prerequisites and desire for the perfect personalised craft.
Since 1999 the drive and direction of Salthouse Marine has been under the leadership of Julie Salthouse. Turnover has since quadrupled and the company's reputation for building quality high performance motoryachts has cemented its position within Australia, creating a strong brand in a very intense market.
Julie believes the family culture of the business remains an important aspect of the go forward. With the formal retirement of founder Bob Salthouse, Perth based Chris Norman will join forces with Julie and take an interest in the business.
Chris's enthusiasm was captured at Sanctuary Cove Boatshow three years ago when he fell in love with the Salthouse 65 "White Mischief". It was at this time he commissioned the build of his Salthouse 65 "Aronui" and came on board shortly after as the WA agent for Salthouse Marine.
"With his strong marine background there was an immediate fit with our philosophy and passion for what we do," says Julie.
After graduating from the University of New South Wales, Australia in 1986 with first class honours in Naval Architecture Chris became one of the founding Directors of Austal Ships, and was a driving force in the technical and marketing success of Austal which is today a world leader in aluminium shipbuilding.
Recognised for his outstanding service in the profession of Mechanical Engineering Chris also received the highest award bestowed by the Mechanical College Board of Engineers Australia, the A.G.M. Michell Award.
"While modest about his achievements, a strong synergy exists and it will be great to have Chris more entrenched in the business as we move into the next phase of growth and the future plans for the business." says Julie. "Also, with Australia comprising over 70% of our market, this Aussie connection will consolidate our alignment with the Australian market.'
Salthouse vessels are well suited to the rugged cruising grounds of New Zealand and Australia and Chris would bear testament to that when he sailed Aronui from Auckland to Perth crossing the Tasman Sea, cruising up and across the Gulf of Carpentaria and down to the Indian Ocean.
A Salthouse 57 is currently following in his footsteps and cruising its way to Perth, five more Salthouse motoryachts are under construction and destined for Perth including a second build for Chris further demonstrating his commitment and enthusiasm for the Salthouse product.
