Mr Watson said the popular fishing tournament attracted many spectators, as well as about 250 competing vessels to the area.
"It is quite a popular week on the water - for competitors and spectators alike," Mr Watson said.
"NSW Maritime will have a presence with Boating Officers patrolling the area throughout the competition."
"These officers will be conducting inshore and offshore patrols, concentrating on safety equipment compliance. Such as ensuring that people are carrying the correct number of flares and also ensuring flares are not expired.
"Maritime will also be conducting night operations to ensure vessels are correctly lit."
Mr Watson said all skippers were warned to take extreme caution when crossing the Evans River coastal bar.

"Skippers are ultimately responsible for the safety of everyone on board.
"If ever you are in doubt before attempting to cross a coastal bar, the best rule of thumb is not to go out.
"And don't forget - it is compulsory for all people on board to wear a lifejacket when crossing a coastal bar."
Mr Watson said it was also compulsory for all vessels going more than two miles offshore to carry a marine radio, as well as a 406 MHz EPIRB for vessels 8m or larger.
