Rydge & Scarr move into second at FD Europeans

'AUS37 Norman Rydge and Richard Scarr' FD Worlds 2006
Australia's Norman Rydge and Richard Scarr have move into second place over all at the Flying Dutchman European Championship, but with a drop coming in a few races this placing may change.

Richard Scarr reported to Sail-World today

'Four races down and all the players are coming to the top.

'Today, the Bojsen- Mullers' (Olympic Gold medallist) moved to the top of the leader board, with two first places in light to moderate conditions.

'Norman and I had a mixed day with the first race this morning, having a fourth. Our only mistake was not being intense enough in getting into the first wave after rounding the top mark in second, and we got rolled by two Germans - mind you, I was a little concerned with the jury around and didn't want to overstep the boundaries with rule 42!.

'In the second race we rounded fourth at the top, fourth at the bottom, still fourth at the top, then third at the bottom after a gybe for gybe, pump for pump race with the Hungarians Hun70 (four times FD World Champions). Then we had an issue with the traveller on our boat and dropped back to eighth, as we could not point for 50 metre.

'Just a bit of back ground about our previous tussles with the Hungarians and the Bojsen-Mullers'. We came second to them (Hungarians) at the Worlds in Melbourne, then third against the Bojsen-Mullers' at the FD World titles in Hungary a few years ago. So there is plenty of inspiration for us to keep hammering away at both teams.

'All in all . a very frustrating day for us.

'However consistency, most of the time, wins regattas so tomorrow we hope for more consistency and a little bit of luck!'
