Ruth Magic threatens Alegria's Division 2 lead at Audi IRC Series

10:12 AM Sat 24 Jan 2009 GMT
Inaugural Audi IRC Australian Championship winner, Rod Jones sailed Alegria into fourth place in Division 2 of the Audi IRC Series at Skandia Geelong Week today in the Passage Race from Williamstown in Melbourne to Geelong and it was only enough to hold onto the lead from the race winner, Ruth Magic (Peter Hill, NSW).
Alegria has just a one point lead from both Ruth Magic, which has lifted up from fourth into second place, and Reverie (Alan Woodward, Vic) which continues on in third place.

Ruth Magic, a Beneteau 45, was always expected to be a strong rival - at the helm is skiff and sportsboat champion, Peter Sorensen, who won the 2008 Audi IRC Australian Championship - and the Audi A4. Also aboard is Australia's gold medallist 470 skipper at the Beijing Games, Nathan Wilmot.

True North dropped down the placings today from second into fourth.

Nothing has changed in Division 3. Peter Dunne's (Vic) Upbeat continues to lead that series, a seventh place enough to keep him in first place following two bullets yesterday and Surprise (David Ellis, Vic) and Mrs Overnewton (Leslie Norton, Vic) are still second and third following fourth and third places respectively.

Wind Speed (Les Browne, Vic) won Division 3 today, lifting him up to 13th overall.
