Rudd Admits Online is the Medium of Choice
Yesterday the PM, Kevin Rudd, addressed Australian media bosses and told them online is the news and information medium of the future.
'Kevin Rudd, the only newspaper reader in his family.'
.
The country's media bosses were meeting on the Gold Coast for the PANPA08 (Pacific Area Newspaper Publishers' Association) conference, and one of the main topics was dissemination of information.
The main challenge facing newspapers is the current climate of the 24-hours news cycle which is leading to diminishing newspaper circulation. People just aren't reading newspapers (and consuming other traditional media) any more.
In his keynote speech, Rudd said quality journalism was integral to the future of the country, but he acknowledged that increasingly, the public was finding this information online.
Evidenced by the closure of The Bulletin magazine after 128 years and the Nine Network's Sunday program after 28 years, the industry is transforming and presenting myriad challenges to traditional media forms.
The PM admitted he was the only newspaper reader in his family, with his wife and three children getting all their news online.
