Rolex Volcano Race 2011 saw line honors go to Alegre on a course that was shortened due to a lack of winds in the Tyrrhenian Sea. The finish had been set off the island of Alicudi, the most westerly of the Aeolian Islands. The course was shortened by the race committee because of a lack of wind in the southern Tyrrhenian Sea. The after-guard of Alegre includes Francesco de Angelis, who is best known as Skipper of Luna Rossa for the America's Cup.
