Powerboat P1 entries will have a stronger championship identity in 2009 as a more uniform approach for boat identification is set to be used.

A larger orange section at the nose of the hull, allied to larger team race numbers and a more prominent Powerboat P1 logo will help strengthen the series' profile according to organisers.

'During our review of the 2008 season, it was apparent that our race boats lacked a level of consistency in look and feel,' Rangoonwala said recently. 'For any first-time viewers - either as spectators at events, or as television viewers - we felt there was nothing which identified the boats as part of the same series and this was a problem that needed to be addressed.

'If you look at any major international motorsport series, there is something on the cars or bikes which says this is 'A1GP', 'DTM' or 'MotoGP'. Powerboat P1 branding on the boats has thus far been inconsistent and - at times - unrecognisable against many different coloured backgrounds, so the time has come to standardise this requirement. We see it as being in the long-term interest of the series, and we believe the teams will ultimately benefit as a result.
