PWA Surf World Cup - Another day of frustration

At the 2009 Dwarf8 PWA Surf World Cup, competition's fifth day saw the slalom fleet rise bright and early in the hope of taking advantage of a promising window of wind forecast for the hours leading up to midday.

On cue, the wind arrived and race elimination 5 took to the water to compete in the forecasted 10-15 knot NW breeze. With a limited window of wind to work with, false starts in both heats 1 and 2 put increasing pressure on the race committee to narrow the fleet down to the final 16, at which point the elimination would count towards the overall event standings.

Unfortunately, the forecasted wind proved to be a short lived affair, with only eight heats of race five completed before the race committee were forced to send the slalom fleet back to the beach, where they waited on standby until the day's competition was officially declared over late into the afternoon.

As it stands, the event's rankings have not changed since race four was completed at the end of day two. With one day of competition still to run, the current rankings from the 2009 Dwarf8 PWA Surf World Cup are:
