Opening day for Olympic classes at Kiel Week

First day of Kieler Woche for the Olympic classes. In the 49er it was Iker Martinez and Xabier Fernandez of Spain who mastered the conditions to lead after three races. They are one point ahead of Peter and Soren Hansen of Denmark. Stevie Morrison and Ben Rhodes are in fifth place with a 9, 5, 1 scoreline.

John Pink and Rick Peacock also won a race and they are eighth overall.

Only two races for the Finn class and Spain's Rafael Trujillo won the first race and then had a third place to lead by two points from Vinec gasper, with Ed Wright in third place. Andy Mills is in ninth place.

In the 2.4mR, Heiko Kroger of Germany is tied in the lead with Damien Seguin of France, each with a first and a second. Thierry Schmitter is in third and Megan Pascoe of Britain in fourth. Helena Lucas is in fifth place.

Robert Scheidt and Bruno Parada won both the opening day races in the Star fleet with Fredrik Loof and Anders Ekstrom of Sweden in second in both races. No Brits in this event.

Australian Tom Slingsby was battling with Kiwi Andy Murdoch in the Laser fleet, but it was Gustavo Lima of Portugal who leads after two races. Slingsby is second and Murdoch tied in third. Evan Scott is best placed GBR in the Laser at 20th.

Another big fleet for the Laser Radial event. Leader after two races is Lijia Xu of China with two wins. Second is Tina Mehelic and third Tatiana Drozdovskaya. Alison Young of Britain is eighth with a 6 and 5.
