Registrations for the Games, which are open to everyone rather than just elite athletes and feature 28 popular sports competitions, close on Friday 31 July.
'If you've ever dreamt of competing at a major international multi-sport event then the Games are your chance to live out your sporting fantasy,' said double Olympic champion Lord Sebastian Coe, one of 19 legends who are Games ambassadors.
'You don't need to be an Olympic champion. You only need to meet your sport's minimum age and feel fit, fun and forever young. Thousands of everyday people will have extraordinary experiences at the Games. You can be one of them!'
While work commitments have prevented Lord Coe registering for the Games, more than 100 Olympians have signed up already, including competitors from each of the past 17 summer events dating back to the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Germany.
Other high-profile Games competitors include His Royal Highness The Crown Prince of Denmark, who will compete in the men's 35+ tasar sailing with Chris Meehan, 702 ABC Sydney breakfast presenter Adam Spencer (men's 40+ football with 702 United) and rugby league great Mark Geyer (men 40+ touch football with MG's Maulers).
'It doesn't matter how old or how good you are, everyone's invited to take part in what's the biggest event of its kind on the planet,' Games Chair Margy Osmond said. 'Don't let the Games begin without you. Register now before it's too late!'
In addition to the support of many domestic and international sports icons such as Lord Coe, the Games enjoy the backing of the Australian and NSW governments, with both of them contributing $8.5 million in cash towards their staging.
With one third of Games registrants expected to travel from overseas, particularly Canada, New Zealand and America, the Games are projected to deliver an economic benefit of $48 million to NSW. Among the biggest winners are likely to be western Sydney regions with Games venues, areas that are off the beaten tourist track.
