The New South Wales International Optimist Dinghy Association (NSWIODA) officially launched it's new class website a little over a week ago and are inviting sailors young and old, no matter what class of boat they sail, to visit www.optinsw.yachting.org.auand see what's going on in the Optimist class.
With the growing number of fleets in NSW it was becoming obvious that NSWIODA needed an effective way of communicating with Opti families, but the level of interest in the site has taken everyone by surprise. In less than a week over 15,000 pages have been viewed and there is still a lot of activity on a daily basis.
While the website is still very much a 'work in progress', in the longer term NSWIODA plans to create an interesting 'one stop' resource for young sailors where they can access everything from coaching tips and tuning guides to regatta, weather and supplier information. At the same time they hope the site will be sophisticated enough that older sailors save it as a favourite and return regularly, even if only to access the latest boating weather.
