Day two of the Australian Match Racing Championship was delayed for an hour an half while RO Ted Anderson waited for the breeze to fill in and settle. A light Nor Easter started to fill in and strengthened through the day to 12 to 15 knots.
David Chapman has had a better day today scoring 5 wins from 6 races. David commented on the winning formula for today, 'We have had good team work for the past couple of days, but we realised our pre starts needed to improve, so today we really worked on our time calls.'
One of Chapman's wins was against Michael Dunstan who is currently tied at the top of the point's ladder with Seve Jarvin. Dunstan and Jarvin went up against each other in the first race of the second round robin, with Jarvin this time getting the upper hand over Dunstan.
Murray Gordon had an up and down with a score card of four wins and four losses, but is still within reach of a semi final berth. 'Things were up, things were down, and you really have to stay in phase with the breeze. We had an important win against Evan, we are pretty close on points and things could come back to a tie break situation.'
Also causing some upsets out on the water were Jason Waterhouse and his team beating Walker and Jarvin. 'The team and myself are all relatively new to match racing so we are learning heaps out on the water, and to come away with a couple of wins has been great,' said Waterhouse.
The forecast tomorrow is for Winds N/NW 10/15 knots, turning N/NE 13/18 knots in the afternoon.
The racing will continue tomorrow, finishing of the remaining flight from round robin two, and the plan is to race 5th to 9th for final placing and then onto the semi finals, with the petite and finals to be held on Tuesday
After tallying up the total scores from round robin one and the completed matches from round robin two, there are 5 teams who are fighting in contention of a semi finals spot. The last flight will make all the difference to see which teams make it through.
