Australian Nathan Outteridge grabbed the overall lead in the penultimate race of the Zhik Moth Australian Nationals on a blustery day on Geelong's Corio Bay. Outteridge took two second places to oust Britain's Simon Payne, who had a disastrous day, an OCS and a DNF, to slip to second place and all now depending on the final Dash for Cash race Sunday.

With a peak gust of 32 knots and winds averaging 22 knots and gusting up to 28 the sports boats were sent ashore by the race committee not long after the start of their first race of the day while the SB3's were also sent ashore without getting a start in. Both classes later resumed racing in a 14 knot westerly which is gusting to 20 knots.

The Moth Nationals were also postponed until the breeze moderated and before they were able to complete their scheduled two races.

Winner of race eight was American, Bora Gulari, with Outteridge second and Psarofaghis Arnaud of Switzerland in third place.

In the final race of the day, David Lister took his second win in the event ahead of Outteridge and reigning world champion John Harris.

Payne was OCS in the first race and then during the second his trampoline ripped and he was forced to retire. One more race will be sailed Sunday to complete the championship.

In the 'dash for cash' event off the breakwater at the Royal Geelong Yacht Club, Scott Babbage won the $500 cash (?240) after a series of short races with the last two in each dropping out until just the two survive for the final.
