With three races completed offshore on day one and one race completed inshore on day two Mark Langford sailing Critical Balance leads the Forgacs NCYC Etchells Offshore Regatta.
The nine boat fleet headed offshore into Stockton Bight on the Saturday for some tightly contested racing evident with a different winner in each of the three races completed.
Top performers from day one's lighter conditions were Tom Braidwood's Fantasia and Richard Howard and Joel Skelton's Newby. Day two saw racing confined to the Hunter River due to the strong winds and high seas whipped up the East Coast low currently belting the NSW coast.
Critical Balance recovered exceptionally well from a mediocre start to win the one race held on day two of the regatta and take the outright overall lead in testing conditions on the harbour confines.
While the enthusiasm for leaving the dock shown by sailors was not great due to the drenching rain and cool temperatures a couple beers at NCYC following today's race seemed to warm up most sailors in preparation for tonight's NRL Grand final.
Racing continues tomorrow subject to further weather developments associated with low pressure system currently sitting off the NSW coast. For results and further information please visit www.ncyc.net.au
