12:26 AM Sun 3 May 2009 GMT TSS Sailing Club and Sail Training Centre is accredited as a Yachting Australia Training Centre to deliver the nationally recognised 'Small Boat Sailing' stream of training and qualification. Through May and June 2009, a program will be offered exclusively for women to undertake a six-week course which upon successful completion, will attain Yachting Australia Small Boat Sailing Level One and Two certification.
This course is designed to provide a safe and enjoyable introduction to small boat sailing for novices. The course includes an introduction to fundamental boat handling skills and essential knowledge that will allow participants the freedom of sailing small boats with guidance from the Instructor or Coach.
The syllabus provides a comprehensive overview of small boat sailing principles and practices including rigging, ropework, sailing techniques and maneuvers, rescue procedures and drills, launching and recovery, sailing background and theory, meteorology, winds, tides and currents.
Starting May 13, the course runs 9am to 12 noon each Wednesday morning and concludes on June 17. This course is strictly limited to 10 persons only and pre-enrolment is essential. Mother's Day gift certificates are available but must be purchased before May 4 through the TSSSC Sailing Office.
