| Race Two of the Pointscore of the Audi Winter Series 2009 commenced in 10-12 knots of south sou' easterly breeze. Racing commenced on time for the fleet of 118 yachts, with a full course being sailed on course B.
The rain cleared early this morning and which allowed for the breeze to fill in, just in time for the start of racing.
PRO John Hurley commented on the day's racing "Everyone was very pleased to see the rain go away and for the breeze to fill in. As the breeze was coming in from the sou'east, course B was chosen, and the breeze continued build throughout the day to a top of 18 knots. This allowed some of the bigger boats in the fleet to enjoy a great beat back from Robinson's Point up to the finishing gate."
David Pescud's Sailors with Disabilities finished first in Division A, with Dick Cawse's Vanguard second and Andrew Short's Andrew Short Marine Shockwave 5 third.
"It was a wet day to start out with. I was sitting at the CYCA enjoying my breakfast, cooked by the Breakfast Club, thinking that it wasn't going to be a pleasant day on water," said David Pescud.
"But in true Sydney fashion, the sun came out and the harbour was at its jewelled best for the start of the race. We had the usual crew on board with Jo (a mum to six month old baby girl Alex) helming today - a perfect Mother's Day for her!"
"The crew work was excellent but we did destroy a spinnaker on the second leg of the course near Sow and Pigs." concluded David
In Division B, it was very tight at the top with only 12 seconds between first and second in the finishing times. James Neill's The Crone of Silence finished first, with Paul Clitheroe's Balance second and Darryl Hodgkinson's Vivacite third.
Commenting on today's race, Balance owner Paul Clitheroe had mixed feelings about today's race. "I think we may have found out what the problem was with the 'new' Balance - it was me steering! Last week, in the first outing for the new boat, we finished second last, with me at the helm, and this week when I was enjoying a lunch with my mother and wife for Mother's Day, and the boat came second!
I was watching from the sidelines whilst I was at lunch, thinking that they weren't doing too badly."
"Greg Boxall a great friend of mine for over 30 years, and who has been an integral part of the Balance team, could barely contain his laughter when he rang me to inform me of their second place." said Paul.
In Division C, Quetzalcoatl owned by Bruce, Lee, Warner and Sweetapple, finished first with only 25 seconds (on finished time) separating them from Howard/Wayne Elliott's Gaia in second and Peter Goldsworthy's Getaway Sailing 2 third.
In Division D Ray Stone's Razors Edge finished in first place, with Hans Sommer's Sommer Breeze second and Denis Cooper's Amante third.
In Division E, Stuart Birdsall's Sabre finished first with Kevin Horne's Wild Spirit second and David Stitz's Martini third.
Other division winners included Greg Maughan's Syonara (Division F), Brian Carrick's Velocity (Division G), John Ackland's Imagine (Division H), Shaaron Walsh's Trim (Division J), Phillip Denison's Gusto (Division K) with The Tavern winning on handicap and scratch in the Sydney 38OD Division.
