The 77th Zhik International Moth Australian Championships are looming and already the International contingents have arrived to begin training at Royal Geelong Yacht Club in conjunction with Skandia Geelong Week.

This year's Championship's have attracted National Champion's from the US Bora Gulari, Japan's Hiroki Goto, Switzerland's Arnaud Psarofaghis, Sweden's Peder Arvefors and Martin and Magnus

With the unveiling of a few new models from boat builders Bladerider and Mach2, each competitor is looking for that edge to put them over the line. The current Moth World champion John Harris has just taken delivery of his new Bladerider VRX and hopes to put former World Champion UK's Simon Payne to the test on his new Mach2.

It has also been rumoured that former World Champion Rohan Veal may be a late entrant testing a new Bladerider. Now this should be Championships worth watching.

With a line up of 6 of the top 10 mothies in the world, the regatta will be also be contested by Nathan Outteridge the 49er World Champion and Aussie Olympian.

The majority of the fleet are foiling moths, pushing the edge of sailing technology, but there are still a few traditional scows on the entry list, which have their own division. The majority of the entrants are males except for Samantha England, the current Women's World Champion and Kylie Lowry in her famous blue and white frangipani scow.

With a lot of these moths now using GPS, speeds of up to 28 knots have been recorded in the past. These little boats should provide some spectacular entertainment for the crowds at Skandia Geelong Week, with thrills and spills aplenty.
