9:18 AM Wed 3 Dec 2008 GMT Today's scheduled flights in the round robin stage are - Flight 1 - Gilmour v Nurul Ain, Swinton v Richard, Cian v Holmberg and Col v Ainslie. Flight 2 - Holmberg v Swinton, Richard v Cian, Bernstsson v Col and Mirsky v Ainslie.
The weather forecast is for light and variable north, north-east winds of 7 to 9 knots and smooth seas.
Flight 1
Gilmour v Nurul Ain Starting in plenty of current with three knots in the main channel. Gilmour lead at the one minute gun as both boats sailed against the tide to get to the start line. The start was clean and Gilmour took a controlling position over Nurul Ain. Gilmour tacked off to port taking the favoured right hand side of the course. From there he lead throughout the match to finish first about three boat lengths ahead of Nurul Ain.
Swinton v Richard Richard had a huge lead over Swinton at the start. He continued to lead with Swinton not taking the right hand current advantage. Richard won the match with a comfortable margin.
Cian v Holmberg Cian lead the match by about five or six lengths after the start. He mainted his comfortable lead at the top mark for the last time to finish first.
Col v Ainslie Ainslie shut off Col at the start and took the lead. He held a tight cover through the race. On the last leg Col gybed to get into less current, but Ainslie continued to hold the lead. Col tried to use the left-hand side to utilise the western river current closing the gap between the boats. But, this was not enough as Ainslie held Col out to take the match. It was an extremely close finish with only half a boat length between them at the finish. It was a heart stopper.
Flight 2
Holmberg v Swinton Holmberg was in control of the start with Swinton wearing an unforced error caught in the strong current entering the start area during the pre-start. Match one, flight two got off with both teams tacking to port. Holmberg won the start. Swinton now carries a penalty.
