With the 6th St. Moritz Match Race taking place between 27 September, once again the world's best Match Racers will be on the starting line as eight of the top ten sailors from the ISAF world ranking list have signed up. In addition, two young talents will be there - Adam Minoprio from New Zealand and the Australian Torvar Mirsky.
Once again the St. Moritz Match Race has attracted the world's best sailors to the Engadin Valley. Along with last year's winner, Ian Williams (GBR), are Richard Mathieu (FRA), Paolo Cian (ITA, Shosholoza) and Sebastien Col (FRA) currently the four best sailors in the Match Race world ranking list. The two 'young and wild ones', Adam Minoprio (NZL) and Torvar Mirsky (AUS), have already shown their talent at different World Tour events and will try to prove themselves at the St. Moritz Match Race. Both are well placed in the world rankings, in10th and 7th place respectively.
America's Cup teams will also be represented at the St. Moritz Match Race by Paolo Cian (Shosholza), Sebastien Col (K Challenge), Jes Gram Hansen (Mascalzone Latino) and Philippe Presti (ex Luna Rossa now French Spirit).
'We are delighted to have such a highlevel group of competitors with the very best from the world ranking and several representatives from the America's Cup here in St. Moritz. This should guarantee a very high level of racing. We are looking forward to it!' says OC President Christian Scherrer.
Finally we should also mention Eric Monnin, last year's third placed Swiss. Monnin and his team have been participating in the St. Moritz Match Race since its inception and has always been one to watch here. 'The St. Moritz Match Race is the most important race of the season for our team and every time it's special.
It's the perfect combination of racing at home against the world's best and in amazing scenery,' says Eric Monnin.
The St. Moritz Match Race will be sailed this year for the first time with a new class of boats, the blu26.
This fourman sportboat is new to the market and has been especially designed for Match Racing in Switzerland. Paraloc, the Swiss rope technology company, will supply control and mooring lines for the boats.
