It's perhaps fitting that a marina on the most beautiful harbour in the world, in one of the most exclusive locations, should be firmly committed to the annual Clean up Australia Day on Sunday 1st March. Along with thousands of Australians, d'Albora Marinas staff at Rushcutters Bay spent extra time yesterday removing rubbish around the marina and waterways, with posters on display that encouraged visitors to take extra care disposing of their rubbish. It's all part of the d'Albora ethos of supporting the local community and preserving the natural beauty of Sydney Harbour for the enjoyment of future generations.
Each d'Albora Marina, seven in total across Sydney, Melbourne & Port Stephens, participated in the clean up, with d'Albora chief executive officer Craig Karpin commenting that their support for the campaign represented the company's commitment to community initiatives.
'We're a major part of the marine industry and with that comes an obligation to take a leadership role when it comes to supporting community driven environmental projects' he explained.
'Our staff understand the importance of caring for the local community and the environment, particularly the waterways.'
As well as being a member of the Clean Marina Programme, having licence approval from the EPA and helping out on Clean Up Australia Day, marina staff often initiate funding for community projects. The team at the Rushcutters marina have established strong ties with one neighbour in particular- Sailability.
Sailability, an organisation that facilitates sailing for everyone, regardless of age or ability, was recently gifted a small motor boat by d'Albora. The boat has become a key part of the organisation's operating equipment, providing the ability to tow yachts in strong winds, lay markers and assist in the event of a man overboard.
The Rushcutters marina staff probably have one of the best 'offices' in the city, with a great view of the Harbour Bridge and a beautiful parkland setting.
