International Cadet World Championships 2011 are being held at the German seaside town of Kuhlungsborn, on the Baltic Sea, from 27th July to 5th August.
Two crews of brothers, the Sassons from Victoria and the Coopers from Tasmania, both achieved top three placings on day five at the Cadet worlds.
Anton and Julian Sasson finished second in heat nine but slipped to 18th in the 76 boat fleet in heat 10.
The brothers, from Sandringham Yacht Club, have retained third overall in standings going into the final day of sailing tonight (Australian time), extending their margin over the next crew to 12 points.
The champion crew is certainly going to be a Polish or a Russian crew, with just nine points between them, with an almost unassailable margin of 31 points over the Australians. The Polish lads added two more wins yesterday and now have five first placings in10 heats.
Jonathan and Thomas Cooper, from Hobart's Sandy Bay Sailing Club, overcame a disappointing DNE disqualification from heat nine to finish third in heat 10. However, they are down the list in 22nd place overall and under the rules cannot use the DNE as a discard race.
This is their third disqualification in the regatta, although they were reinstated in heat one, but lost out on a port and starboard protest in heat five.
Other Australian crews had mixed results. Ashleigh Dyer and Georgina Hughes from Port Lincoln Yacht Club in South Australia, also incurred a DNE disqualification, but did well in heat 10 with a sixth place that has helped them hold 30th place overall.
Tasmanian's Oliver Burnell and Sam Abel are 32nd overall placing with 16-15 yesterday, while fellow Sandy Bay sailors Samantha Bailey and Hannah Chadwick placed 21-36 to be 35th overall.
South Australians Cameron Philcox and Cody Groat from Largs Bay Sailing Club are 36th with a 28-21, while Sean Kean and Oscar Milton from Adelaide Sailing Club are 40th with a 50th and a good eighth yesterday.
