The fat lady has sung at the Ronstan International 505 Australian Championships and she sings for Michael Quirk and Simon Reffold. The boys won convincingly after posting a second in the first race of the day, race 7 and their main opposition had their worst day of the regatta.
The Jackson/Spencer combo had to beat Quirk/Reffold in the remaining races and took a few more risks than normal, none of which paid. They have now dropped to equal second, tied with the star of the day yesterday Kev Cameron and Ken Webber. These boys won both races in the continuing flukey and shifty winds.
The race 7 win was ahead of Quirk and Reffold as mentioned, with Earle Alexander and Ian Gregg in third. It was the best day of the regatta for these two as they posted a 6 in the next race. They have lived for the corners in this event and luckily for them, the corners are paying better than the middle here in McRae.
Race 8 was again Kev and Ken, but this time the youngsters Nick Deussen and Jonno Bannister were giving them the hurry up as were Dan and Daryl on People Bank, the Canberra boys relishing the flat shifty conditions. Also with their best performance was Paul Mitchell and Sam Haines. These boys work for Ullman Sails who are one of the sponsors of the event and it is the busiest time of the year for them. So they are always turning up to the boat park at the last minute with bloodshot eyes after having worked all night. Who would want to be a sailmaker huh!
There is one more race today, but the forecast looks an absolute disaster, very high temperatures generally mean no wind or a giant Northerly which dies to nothing.
