International 420 Class World Championship are back on track





Antonios Tsimpoukelis and George Karonis (GRE 53161) now lead the provisional overall rankings, based on both their Qualifying Series placement, and their performance in the six Final Series races.

Francisco Lardies and Finn Drummond ((NZL 52550) have rebounded back to second position overall (scores: 4,1,(ocs),5,1,3,21).

Riva del Garda.. the 420 Championship is back up and running again today. Yesterday's races had been suspended due to flash rains and insufficient wind. The official report from the Italian event organisers follows:


It's 12:35 pm: the Mens' 420 Gold and Silver fleets have just completed their races, having kicked off with an 8:30 am warning signal and northerly winds blowing around 8 - 9 meters-per-second.

Sunday they were in tenth position; now they have a chance at the Gold. Davide Ortelli and Leonardo Zaggia ((ITA 53583) (Circolo Vela Bellano) now hold third position in the ranks, thanks to that valuable first-place victory in today's third race ((15,14,9,3,2,(16),1)!

Gianni Meloni and Alessandro Gemini (ITA 53838) (Y.C.Cagliari) slid to fifth position overall (7,3,5,(42),23,17,17). Good placement also for Leonardo Dubbini (C.V. Toscolano Maderno) and Federico Lovison (Fraglia Vela Peschiera) (ITA 53636) (28,6,26,(30),24,8, 13), ranking thirteenth overall.

Great results so far, in this 2009 420 World Championship: among the 20 top-ranking crews, eight are Italians!

In the Womens' 420 Gold Group, Cristina Celli and Silvia Morini take the lead in the temporary overall rankings (8,10,(22),3,6). Alexandra Maloney and Bianca Barbarich-Bacher (NZL 52576) in second (1,6,6,(33),16),.

Camilla Marino and Claudia Soricelli gained fifteenth positions and are now in third(2,(dsq), 12,10,7)! Today's winners in the Gold Group were Ana Roche and Ana Oliveira (POR 53427) and also Italians Alessandra Moretto Weil and Eliza Iaiza.

In the Mens' 420 Silver Group, New Zealands' Logan Dunning Beck and Ben Goodwin (NZL 52393) (10,1,11,2,1,4,(12)), maintain their sizeable lead.

In the Womens' 420 Silver Group, Britain's Amy Seabright and Katrina Brewer (GBR 51833) ((4),1,3,1,4). command with a similar advantage.
