Hobart yachtsman Matthew Bugg created sailing history today when he became the first Tasmanian to win the national championship in the International 2.4 metre class, strengthening his prospects of representing Australia in sailing at the London Paralympic Games next year. Bugg, who turned 30 late last month, is also the first sailor outside of Canberra to have won the Australian championship in the 2.4 metre class. The 2.4 metre yacht is a singlehanded, sloop-rigged, scaled down version of the old 12-metre class yachts that contested the America?s Cup up until 1987.
