Host club Royal Geelong Yacht Club has pulled out all stops to improve berthing arrangements for Skandia Geelong Week. Every avenue has been investigated, from importing a portable attenuator to fast tracking a new public facility, and everything in between.

The club has pulled together a temporary marina that will be physically bolted onto the eastern side of Cunningham Pier. The floating facility will utilise approx 100m of Bellingham Marine concrete pontoons with a 12m return. A fenced ramp will provide crew only access to the shore. Security will be located at the access point. It is expected the marina will house a modest number of larger visiting IRC yachts that do not have a pen or swing mooring allocated (Note: Swing moorings are a safe option for all visiting yachts and an improved water taxi service will make life easier)

Berthing at Cunningham Pier will be beam to (i.e. north south). Mooring buoys/blocks will be positioned so rafted boats can alleviate/minimise load. The Cunningham Pier facility will help ease congestion in the main marina.

A detailed marina plan, which is due to be distributed shortly, has been developed to maximise berthing opportunities and more infrastructure is being hired, i.e. more barges, more pontoons, more swing moorings etc.
