Top US writer and photographer, Rich Roberts, filed these images from the start of the start of the Transpac on Sunday's big boat start from Point Fermin Park in San Pedro.

'Alfa Romeo appears to dominate the panorama. Although the pin end didn't appear to be especially favored, Alfa Romeo ran the line on starboard tack, picked her way through a congestion of race and spectator boats, then sailed away.' Roberts writes.
