A freshening 12-15 knot southwester greeted the SSORC Fleet on day one with the PHS Racer/Cruiser and Sydney 32 fleet heading down harbour from a Shark Island start on a shy line through the Heads, before heading north.

Meanwhile on the Manly Circle, IRC and Division 1 and 2 and the Racer/Cruiser fleet enjoyed the sort of conditions that most would have been grateful for as a season opener with the wind, fresher at first over a gentle swell, dropping to 10-12 knots as the afternoon wore on.

Peter Harburg's 'Black Jack' tracked a solitary run around the course ahead of three TP52s with Ragamuffin, Wot Now and Shortwave playing their first hands in the pre Sydney Hobart run-up.

Crosbie Lorimer followed the PHS fleet through the Heads and joined the IRC Fleet for race 2, shooting these images.
