For any of the crew from the southern states that had not sailed since the summer, Day 1 of the 2008 Audi Hamilton Island Race Week provided a rude awakening.

In surprisingly cool 18-20 knot southeasterlies and a nasty chop the fleet left the Fitzalan Passage to the north of the island on a tough beat to Lindeman Island. From there it was a fast and more relaxed kite run north to the finish at Dent Passage.
