Cook Islands Teams Racing Regatta Final Day. What an incredible day and there are many stories to tell that cannot be told on email but I am ecstatic to tell you that Victoria has finished second overall in this regatta.
Prior to the Finals series, I'm delighted to say that Victoria has finished on top of the leader board after 105 races (in total for all teams) and went into the Final with great confidence. Just prior to the Finals, the Finals series was changed to include the top four.
We sailed off in a best of three series against Rarotonga and after having four races against fourth position, (yes, there was even a re-sail), Victoria advanced to the final (we won 2-1) where the team was unfortunately out-sailed 3-0 by the Aitutaki team.
I am absolutely delighted with this result as is the rest of the team. Yachting Victoria, Royal Geelong Yacht Club, Sandringham Yacht Club and all our team families and friends should be very proud of this great group of sailors. This has turned out to be a very special regatta for these young sailors and their development and it will be great to see where this goes. I have learnt so much myself and look forward to using this knowledge in the future.
We have presentation night tomorrow night at the Sailing Club with island dancing. I forgot to mention that the New Zealand Prime Minister, John Key visited the regatta yesterday.
The results for the Regatta after 5 rounds were as follows (please note that the 1st round was worth ? points):-
1. Victoria - 19.5 pts
2. New Zealand 1 - 18.5 pts
3. Aitutaki - 17.5 pts
4. Rarotonga - 16.5 pts
5. New Zealand 2 - 10.5 pts
6. South Australia 1 - 9 pts
7. South Australia 2 - 6 pts
