Sydney sailor and current World Champion Guy Stenning and his world class crew onboard Optimum are currently leading the Australian Farr 30 Championships which currently are racing on the waters of Moreton Bay east of Brisbane.

The eight strong fleet began their battle yesterday with four races competed in the afternoon. Racing continues today and tomorrow with ten races planned for the duration of the regatta.

Stenning showcased his world standard by winning three of the four races after day 1. A further four races are scheduled for today with two racing on Sunday to wrap up the regatta. Sitting just three points behind Stenning is Bruce Eddington and his Sandringham Yacht Club crew on K2.

With conditions a consistent 18 knots the one design fleet are experiencing close racing with the local sailors managing to gain the upper hand on some occasions.

Australian Farr 30 Association President Colin Loel sailing Asterix is currently placed third in the regatta ahead of fellow locals Alex Douglas (Synergy) and Chris Tyquin (GOA).

'The conditions for racing are absolutely perfect', said PRO Denis Thompson.

'Moreton Bay is at its best with some of the best close racing possible.

'In Race 5 Optimum took the lead from K2 with only 100m before the finish line,' continued Thompson.

Race 6 is currently underway.
