12:41 PM Tue 27 Jan 2009 GMT The month's of January and February are traditionally 'boat show' season around the world in the Northern Hemisphere and throughout Europe some of the biggest celebrates attending these weeklong events who race fans come to meet firsthand are skillful drivers who race on the U.I.M. F1 World Championship tour.
Two drivers who are working hard for their sponsors and promoting the sport are German pilot Fabian Kalsow at the world's largest boat show in D?sseldorf, while Portuguese driver Duarte Benavente prepares for the upcoming Lisbon Boat Show running from the 7th to the 15th of February.
Fabian, who returned to the F1 tour after being away for a year and one-half is the youngest driver on the tour at 26 years old and who has produced five top 10 finishes in his 10 career starts. He ended last season with an 11th place finish in Abu Dhabi and a failed to start the race in Sharjah because of equipment problems but is looking forward to 2009 in his Italian built BABA boat.
'We have been very busy at the world's largest boat show here in D?sseldorf,' said Fabian. 'I am happy to announce here at the show a new sponsor that will join our effort for '09 in 'Brenderup Boat Trailers'. I have my show boat and my two-seater promotional boat here at the show and we've had thousands of people come up and tell us how they just love the sport. We can't wait to hit the water running in Portimao in April.'
Meanwhile, in Portugal, the largest boating event in the country will have native son Duarte also showing off two of his boats in the show in a couple of weeks.
'We've been very busy for our sponsors 'Interpass' traveling around the country and meeting so many excited fans who follow the sport,' said Duarte. 'Since we are starting our 11th year of the Grand Prix of Portugal, it's become a tradition in my country and people are now very knowledgeable of the sport. I had a fourth place finish there last year and with my new DRAGON boat we will be shooting for a podium at this year's event.'
On the other side of the Atlantic, defending World Champion Jay Price will be representing his Qatar Team at the Miami Boat Show in the month of February. The boat show in South Florida is North America's most important event with many executives involved in the industry from all corners of the globe attending year after year.
So, as the snow and cold continues to make its way throughout much of the northern regions of the globe, one way fans can get focused on the upcoming racing season is to meet the world's most talented drivers who participate in the U.I.M. F1 World Championship while attending boat shows in the winter, saying hello to their racing hero's 'up close and personal.'
