Etchells World Championship, Howarth Yacht Club, Dublin Ireland, scheduled from 19th to 28th August. Windshifts and dropping winds forced the postponement of racing. After a three hour delay because of heavy north-westerly winds, the Etchells Worlds fleet prepared for a 16:00 start as the winds abated. Major wind shifts caused problems for PRO David Lovegrove and his team and the first scheduled start had to be aborted a minute before the gun because of one such wind shift.
