Entry Deadline Extended for OAMPS QLD Youth Week

OAMPS Insurance Brokers QLD Youth Week
The inaugural OAMPS Insurance Brokers Queensland Youth Week entry cut off date have been extended to Thursday 26th June 2008.

All states and territories with the exception of the ACT are to be represented at this stage which will also see the announcement of the Australian Midwinter Youth Champions across the entered classes.

QLD Youth Week commences with a training day on Saturday 5th July with the regatta kicking off on Sunday. Wrapping up on Wednesday 9th July entrants will then have another two days of coaching under the watchful eyes of past and present professional athletes.

The coaching panel consists of former 470 Olympic Campaigners Rike Zeigelmayer and Nick Brehens and former Olympian Christine Bridge. Australian Sailing Team strategist Peter Conde will also be on hand to coach the young sailors and assist them in reaching their full potential.

QLD Youth Week was an initiate of the Queensland High Performance Coach Craig Cobbin who was looking to have a midwinter National Championship event that would give youth sailors from all across Australia an opportunity to compete in a large scale regatta. It also provides world class coaching opportunities and ability to socialise with like-minded youth from all over the country.

'In Australia our young athletes only have one National level championship a year in their class. This puts Australia at a disadvantage compared to Europe where they may have 20 major events,' said Cobin.

'The Australian Midwinter Youth championship and Youth Week potentially doubles our big youth regatta experience for the year. The vision in the future is to have containers coming up from all states and maybe even New Zealand in the RQYS yards. All state teams with their own coaches coming to see how their youth sailors are positioned with 6 months left of training before their youth nationals. Apart from that it's warm up here in the middle of winter!' continued Cobin.

QLD Youth Week will be hosted by the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron who also manages the ISAF Grade 2 Event Sail Brisbane which is scheduled for the 27th to 30th of November this year.
